Released on 21 May 2026, the third installment of the acclaimed Climate Extremes documentary series, Climate Extremes: Agriculture, brings together the world’s leading scientists and innovators to confront one of the critical developing challenges on Earth: feeding humanity on a warming planet. The film investigates how climate change is disrupting the global food system and what that means for every person on Earth.
The film features insights from pioneering scientists and experts including Johan Rockström, Daniel Swain, Shely Aronov, Paul Behrens, Matthias Berninger, Benjamin Bodirsky, Sir Charles Godfray, Monika Zurek, and Jamie Basillie, from institutions including the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford, Bayer AG, University of California (Agriculture and Natural Resources), InnerPlant and Hedgehog Foods.
Global agriculture is both a large source of greenhouse gas emissions and one of the most climate-vulnerable sectors. Crop yields are declining. Supply chains are fracturing. And the window to act is shrinking. Climate Extremes: Agriculture does not just document the problem. It maps a path forward. From Planetary Boundaries to Your Plate: Using scientific data and expert modelling, the documentary connects the global food system to the breach of 7 of 9 planetary boundaries, examining how agriculture is simultaneously a major driver of climate change and one of its most exposed victims.
The Science of Food System Collapse: Experts explain the mechanisms behind declining yields and rising food insecurity, including how warmer temperatures expand the range of pests and pathogens, how erratic rainfall undermines staple crop harvests, and how soil degradation compounds these pressures over time.

Viewers will hear directly from global experts as they break down the physical mechanisms such as increased atmospheric moisture, altered jet streams, and rising temperatures, fueling these events. The documentary features experts from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, ETH Zürich, and the University of California Agriculture and Natural Sciences.
